Astro Announcements 2/13

February 13th, 2024

Good morning Astros! Here are this week’s announcements for athletics and clubs!   Get ready to spread joy, warmth, and goodwill because the Week of Kindness is coming! The National Random Act of Kindness day is February 17th but we will be celebrating this week, February 12th-16th. Our school will be buzzing with acts of kindness, compassion, and positivity. This week is all about fostering a culture of empathy, understanding, and support within our school community.  Be on the lookout for each day's theme. The Pinkerton Academy English Honor Society is hosting a Barnes & Noble fundraising event, in which a portion of all sales go back to the organization. Purchase any item online from Barnes & Noble’s website and use the code posted on the PA English Honor Society Instagram! With the code, a percent of all proceeds will go to the PA English Honor Society.  The fundraiser ends tomorrow night!   The Elementary Spanish Program has a meeting after school today to plan for the next class on the 15th and snack on some chips and salsa! Come one come all to Milli Vanilli tomorrow, Feb 14th 2024! What better way to spend your Valentine’s Day than watching your peers dance and lip sync? Groups of friends and organizations live it up on stage! Plus a sneak peek of the musical, the Addams Family! It’ll be a night you won’t forget! Hope to see you there! Ready to have some fun? The Class of 2026 Class Office is hosting a fundraiser with Skyzone on February 16th from 4-8pm in Manchester. They will receive 20% of all the proceeds if you mention Pinkerton Academy. You don’t want to miss out! Ticket costs are about $16 to $21 dollars, the usual price for skyzone. Can’t wait to see you there!! Jane Doe?  John Doe? Baby Doe?  Ever heard these terms?  That's how society refers to deceased individuals whose names we don't know.  Jennifer Randolph from the Doe Project will be talking in the Manning Lecture Hall from 2-3:15 on Thursday 2/15 about HOW to give names back to found remains.  She will talk about DNA and genetic genealogy, as well as looking at anthropology to determine who the bones belong to.  She will discuss local cases the Doe project has been involved in solving.  We are fortunate to have such a speaker be available! Applications are now being accepted for this year's Annual Dance Club Awarded Scholarship. This is a $500 cash award that goes to a Dance Program student. In order to be eligible, students must be involved in the Dance Program in some way during the current school year. Interested students should submit a 500 word essay explaining 1) why they deserve the award and 2) what they propose to do with the scholarship that would expand their dance education in ways that are clearly centered in dancing. Two copies should be submitted:  One of which should not include any student identification. The other should include both the student's name and mailing address. Please submit both copies to Mr. Boccia of the Music Program. Essays are due no later than Wednesday, April 3rd.   Get your friends together to battle it out for a school wide volleyball tournament, including some infamous teachers, administrators, and security team members! At least 6 people are required to form a team; you can have a maximum of 10 people. The cost is $5 per person and the event will be held in the Hackler gym on March 11th. Reach out to Mrs. Smith in room 6-108-A in the Media Center for information to join, or scan the QR codes on posters around campus. Today at 10:00am, the ski team is competing in Boys’ States!   Tonight at 6:00pm, girls basketball plays Trinity High School at home! At 8:10 tonight, girls hockey plays at TriTown versus Berlin High school Tomorrow, boys hockey plays at 6:25 pm at Keene Ice.   Thanks for listening Astros and have a great week!
