  • The Counseling staff is available to discuss the college applications process and address any questions or concerns you may have. We will be meeting with students one on one to discuss in detail your plans for after high school and how to go about turning them into a reality!

  • You will be receiving a pass during your A period classes to come up to the Low School Counseling office, if for some reason you cannot attend this meeting please email your counselor to reschedule for a different time.

Depending on the path you are considering for after high school, you might want to keep some of the following things in mind:

Four Year College

  • Start familiarizing yourself with Naviance and the Common Application. Many colleges will need you to complete the Common Application to apply, while some may have their own applications to fill out. Whatever the application process is, every school you are applying to needs to be reflected in Naviance so that your Counselor can make sure your transcripts and letters of recommendation arrive on time.

  • Pay attention to deadlines! Many early action deadlines begin popping up in November and December, make sure these are accurately represented in Naviance.

  • If you are thinking about retaking SATs, check the list of available dates on Collegeboard.

  • You will need to have your letters of recommendation requested in Naviance prior to any deadlines. For any questions about Naviance, please see our Naviance FAQ, or contact your School Counselor.

Two Year College/Technical Schools

  • Consult programs of studies to see what available majors or certification programs best fit your needs and desired outcome.

  • Consider taking a tour and attending an open house night to learn more about the offerings and requirements of programs, and to get a first hand look at the school itself.

  • Schools that you apply to need to be listed in Naviance so that the counselor can send your transcript to the Admissions department.

Military

  • Check the website for updated lists of when recruiters from various branches will be on campus.

  • Consider consulting a recruiter outside of school for more immediate answers to any pressing questions you might have.

  • Pinkerton Academy will be offering the ASVAB exam on December 6th. If you have not taken this exam by then, please consider signing up for it!

  • If you are interested in attending one of the Military Academies, please review the following information

    • Senator Shaheen's office is currently accepting applications for Congressional nomination. If interested, please go to her website. The deadline for submission is October 5th. Should you have any questions, please contact Peter Clark at 503-647-7500.

Entering the Workforce

  • Start developing a resume! Work with teachers that you may have through CTE programs or through the CTE office to research internship possibilities. Research specific job traits, like qualifications and pay through Naviance and ONET.

Important Upcoming Dates

As we all navigate these challenging times, we, your school counselors want to make sure you know that we are here for you.  Please reach out and contact us via email with any and all questions.  We continue to be available for one on one meetings via video conference or phone.  Things are rapidly changing on the college admissions landscape and April 1st deadlines for college applications and scholarships are fast approaching.

Below are updates that we believe are important to share with you and your families:

4/1 is a popular deadline for scholarship applications.

  • Please login to your Naviance account (if you can't get it, email your counselor) and search for 4/1 deadlines.

  • There are many scholarships with 4/1 deadlines that are for Pinkerton Academy seniors only; therefore making your chances of being awarded funds greater.

  • Search for those that say organized by Pinkerton Academy.  Mrs. Burt ([email protected]) will ensure your application materials are sent.

4/17 is the deadline for applying to the NH Charitable Foundation scholarships.

  • This is the largest granter of funds in the state and allows for one application to apply to many different scholarship funds.  This is a must do!

4/1 is also the deadline for several local state colleges, namely, Keene and Plymouth.

  • If you are still applying to 4 year college, search for those with late or rolling deadlines.  Please notify your school counselor to ensure your application materials are sent.

  • For those students accepted to college, many admissions offices are extending the deadline to commit from May 1 to June 1 to allow families to have more time to decide

  • Accepted student days, orientations, and onsite campus events are being replaced by video conferences and social media live events.  Keep an eye on communications being sent via email from your particular college.

  • Online virtual tours are replacing campus visits. Check out  www.campustours.com, www.youvisit.com to help you make a decision about where to attend in the fall.

And lastly, admissions departments are worried about enrollment as more students may choose to not attend this fall or attend a school closer to home.  Please have an honest conversation with your parents/guardians and if you would like to apply to a NH State school or a 2-year Community College, please contact your school counselor.  During these uncertain times, it may be worthwhile to research academic offerings at our local community colleges here.

Please contact your school counselor if you have any questions or would like to have a meeting. Thank you!
