Monthly Update - May 2024

May 28th, 2024 by Tim Powers

May 28, 2024

Good afternoon, With Memorial Day behind us, the end of the school year is rapidly approaching! Here are some updates on all that’s happening on campus.

Building Project

The building project continues to be on time and budget. Since the last update, the transformer was installed and the rooftop units were placed on top of the building. The MEP rough-ins are 90% complete on the 3rd floor and the 2nd floor sprinkler install has started. Drywall is underway on the first two floors with painting starting on the first floor as well. The southside steel entry is being installed and the brick facade is completed on the south side of the building. The brick facade is nearing completion on the east side of the building and will be moving to the north side next.

Strategic Plan

Over the past year, members of our community have worked on updating the strategic plan. From a community forum night last October, the committee incorporated the thoughts, ideas, and feedback from students, staff, our families, and community members to develop this updated plan. The plan is simple yet ambitious and will have a positive impact on our students while also emphasizing areas for growth of our faculty and staff as we seek to accomplish the following three goals:

 - Develop resilient learners

 - Enhance our system of support & sustainability

 - Ensure all students graduate with a plan

Thank you to the members of the strategic plan committee: Kaelyn Hawekotte, Clairee Bourdeau, Jyoti Demian, Derek Lee, Katie Greeb, Amy Stafford, Adam Mead, Michael Delahanty, Brenda Guggisberg, Adam Duriga, Kasarah Juneau, and Linda Desmarais for their work throughout.

On the website, you can see the updated plan. During the process, the mission and vision statements were updated, and the changes are reflected on the website. All of this was approved at the most recent Board of Trustees meeting.

Start Time

The Start Time Committee has continued to meet throughout the year. One of the biggest obstacles is the coordination of timing bus runs for the sending town elementary and middle schools without incurring additional expenses. The committee has looked at shifting the Pinkerton start time back anywhere from 15 minutes to 1 hour and 45 minutes. No changes will be made for the upcoming school year, and the committee will continue its work next year. We thank our representatives from the sending school boards and districts for their work with us on this.

Graduation & End of Year

Today is the first day of Senior Spirit Week, and the Class of 2024 is gearing up for graduation. This week they have their last days of classes, and exams begin. Next week they finish exams and start graduation rehearsals ahead of commencement on Friday, June 7th. You can find all the details about graduation on the website. Go to the Students Section > Class Pages > Seniors.

The end of the school year for underclass students will also come before our next monthly update! The exam schedule for underclass students can be found on our website under the calendars section.

We will continue with the monthly updates over the summer, and I hope you have found the communications this year informative and interesting.  I hope you’ll continue to check out Our Voices of PA and On Campus with Dr. Powers video series as well as our podcast Educational Insights with Dr. Powers: A Podcast for Lifelong Learners. You can find links to all of these and to our monthly letters on our website – Head of School’s Communications page. I also urge you to continue to read Mr. Perez's updates, visit our website, and follow us on social media.

We are all looking forward to a strong end to the school year and a restful summer!

Sincerely,

Dr. Timothy J. Powers
