Jacob Lebroda '23 publishes book on finance
December 19th, 2022
Senior Jacob Lebroda saw a problem and set out to solve it. He believes that business education is severely lacking across the U.S. and cites the fact that as of October, 2022, only 21 of the 50 states require public schools to teach personal finance. Grateful that New Hampshire is among the 21, Lebroda decided more work needed to be done.
“Now more than ever,” he says, “children need a proper, comprehensive business education program.”
So he set out to create just that. Sending a Google Forms survey to business leaders across the U.S., Jacob asked 1) if people thought there were flaws within the national financial education system and 2) what topics they wish they could learn more about. In return, students from all 50 states responded to his survey, with 98% of them answering “yes” to the first question.
Moving forward, Jacob used these results to create and self-publish an educational manual covering 8 demanded business topics: bank accounts, the FAFSA, college loans, job searches, card types, checks, investing, and saving. Titled Find Your Finance, this 57-page manual can be found on Amazon for $11.99.
Despite the low financial literacy rate in the state of New Hampshire, Jacob is confident that his work can combat that issue. “If us kids want to have financially secure futures, a change must be made. And I hope that my book is that first step in the right direction.”
