Weekly Update 11/1/24
November 1st, 2024
Hello Pinkerton Community,
It’s hard to believe it’s already November 1st, and we’re about to enter the holiday season with Thanksgiving and Christmas just around the corner. We’re also in the middle of the playoff season for many sports, with Girls Cross Country recently winning their third consecutive state championship. On Wednesday night, we enjoyed an incredible performance by the PA Chorus, and next week, the Jazz and Dance show will take place on Wednesday night at the Stockbridge Theatre.
Please remember that this Tuesday, November 5, 2024 is National Election Day, and the campus will be open solely for the community to vote. We as a nation may be feeling many different emotions on Wednesday morning as we return to work and school. I want to remind everyone that Pinkerton Academy is committed to fostering a respectful and inclusive environment where everyone can engage thoughtfully in discussions about current events, share perspectives, and build a deeper understanding of our responsibilities as citizens.
On Wednesday, November 6, 2024, in addition to picture retakes, we are excited to welcome Mr. Judson Laipply as a guest speaker for our sophomore class during R2. A select group of student leaders will also have the opportunity to participate in a leadership session led by Mr. Laipply during R4. As a motivational speaker, Mr. Laipply has inspired countless audiences with his empowering and positive message, often speaking on topics such as change, the power of choice, and decision-making.
In the coming weeks, we will have Monday, November 11, 2024, off in observance of Veterans Day. Additionally, school will be closed from Wednesday, November 27, through Friday, November 29, 2024, for the Thanksgiving Holiday Break.
Several FLEX groups in the Ek Science Building participated in a door decorating contest for Halloween, and Dr. Powers and I judged. All the groups did great, but there can only be one winner! Congratulations to Mr. Plante’s FLEX for their winning door!
Weekly Highlights:
Student ID Cards: Just a reminder that all students should have their physical ID cards on them at all times while on campus. Students now need to have their ID card present to purchase lunch from any of the lunchrooms. ID cards can be purchased in the Registrar's office in the Low Building for $5.00.
Junior Class Fundraiser - The Class of 2026 Sweatpant Fundraiser is to help raise money for the junior prom. It runs from 11/4 - 11/19. Below is the link to the Sweatpant fundraiser for students to purchase:
Tuesday, November 5, 2024 Election Day: No school for students; staff remote professional day
Picture Retake Day: Wednesday, November 6th, 8 am - 12 pm in the Stockbridge Theatre Lobby. Students who want retakes or didn’t get a picture taken yet can stop by any time in that window.
Winter Sports: Winter sports organizational meetings for any Pinkerton student interested in trying out for a Winter sport will be held according to the schedule linked. Registration will be open soon and can be found on our website. Reach out to the Athletic Office with any questions.
Veterans Day Breakfast: On November 11th, the Class of 2026 will host our annual Veterans Day Breakfast from 7 - 9 am in the Senior Cafe. This event is free for veterans and their families.
Thursday, November 14th: GRAMMY-nominated Pinkerton Academy alum, Caleb Chapman will be returning to campus for a special concert. Caleb is the founder and director of the Crescent Super Band a high school band from Utah, and they are bringing two guest soloists along with them- Steve Smith (former drummer for the band Journey and currently with Vital Information) and Francisco Torres (Big Phat Band).
The Crescent Super Band along with Steve and Francisco will perform a free concert beginning at 6:30pm in the Stockbridge Theatre. The Pinkerton Jazz Ensemble will be the opening act, and we'd love to see you there! Given the distance that these students are traveling to perform, it would be great to give them a full house to perform! Get tickets here!
