Monthly Update - August 2024

August 27th, 2024 by Tim Powers

Good afternoon,

It’s been a busy summer with a lot of work and preparation for the school year, and it’s finally here! Last week our new faculty started, and it is great to have our entire staff back with students returning to campus this week!

This week we welcome students for their opening days. Freshmen and Sophomores on Wednesday, Juniors and Seniors on Thursday. These days allow our students to run through their schedules, find their way around campus, meet their teachers, and connect with friends. The schedules for these days were included in the Start of Year materials emailed earlier this month and can be found on our homepage as well. On Tuesday, September 3rd, we will have our first day of classes. Our school calendar and Red/White breakdown can be found here.

Progress on the new building continues to be on-time and on-budget. The brick facade is complete and the windows are in. The entryways are being constructed. The majority of the work being done is within the building. The elevator has been installed and the acoustical grid is nearing completion. The walls have been primed and the installation of flooring will start soon. In the bathrooms, tile work is underway. The end of December remains to be the target date for us to be able to move into the building; classes being in there when we return from break in January. When classes move out of the remaining portion of the Social Studies Wing, the rest of the wing will be demolished and site work will be done to create green space and redo the parking lot along Pinkerton St.

On Wednesday, September 25th, we have an early release and it is our Meet the Teachers Night (previously called Open House). This is an opportunity for families to to come to campus and meet their student’s teachers, learn about the classes, and see our campus.

Wednesday, September 18th, we will be hosting a Fall Open House for prospective students. Last spring we hosted a Spring Open House, and this summer we hosted an Ice Cream Social for prospective students and their families to visit our campus. We are excited to be able to connect with future Astros and their families through these efforts. You can email our Enrollment and Admissions Specialist Rosa Matos with any questions: [email protected]

Fall is an exciting time on campus with many events. We are looking forward to seeing students and their families at many of our games, concerts, plays, and other events. Be sure to check out the website and follow us on social media for updates and highlights throughout the school year.

Sincerely,

Dr. Timothy J. Powers
