Weekly Update 4/5/2024

April 5th, 2024 by Mike Perez

Pinkerton Families and Friends,

I hope the Pinkerton community survived the April snowstorm and is hopefully ready for some nice weather next week.  We are about 2 weeks away from April vacation and only 2 MONTHS from Graduation.  This week I wanted to profile the PA World Language Department and all that PA offers.

The department operates under the belief that proficiency in multiple languages is essential for success in an increasingly interconnected world.  All of the classes encompass various levels, from introductory to advanced, each building upon the foundation laid in preceding courses. The curriculum includes components such as grammar, vocabulary, speaking, listening, reading, writing, and cultural studies.  Teachers employ a variety of teaching strategies, including immersion techniques, task-based learning, project-based learning, and technology integration. Differentiated instruction ensures that diverse learning styles and abilities are accommodated.  The department also offers a range of extracurricular activities to supplement classroom instruction and enhance language learning. These may include language clubs, cultural events, exchange partnerships, and service-learning projects.

The World Language Department at Pinkerton Academy provides diverse options for language courses. Offerings include American Sign Language, French, German, Latin, and Spanish. Additionally, the Academy sponsors extracurricular clubs such as the ASL Club, German Club, Classical Society, Elementary Spanish Club, International Club, and the World Language Honor Society. The department actively engages students in immersive language experiences, including a 2-week Spanish Exchange Program with Colegio Askartza Claret and a Spanish Language Immersion Program in Costa Rica. Also, students have the opportunity to participate in cultural excursions to destinations such as France, Quebec City, Germany, and Mexico, with upcoming potential trips planned for Greece and Italy.

The World Language Department plays a crucial role in preparing students for the diverse world by equipping them with language skills, cultural understanding, and an appreciation for diversity.  The instructors provide a dynamic learning environment where students can explore, engage, and thrive in their language studies.

Weekly Highlights:

Science Testing:Science Assessment Bell Schedule for April 9th

  • Attention juniors: All credit-bearing juniors will be taking the NH Science Assessment during the 2-hour FLEX on April 9th.  Most students will be testing in the same classrooms as they did for SATs, but please check your Pinkerton Academy Email accounts for your room assignments. Bring your fully charged school-issued Chromebook to testing.  Please eat a good breakfast, get a good night's sleep, and arrive on time.  Electronic devices will be collected in the testing room and returned to students after their testing room is finished.  If you have any further questions, reach out to Pinkerton's testing coordinator at [email protected].
  • Grades 9 & 10:  During the April 9th 2-hour FLEX, students will rotate between the classroom and a presentation in the Stockbridge Theatre by Richard Haynes, UNH Undergraduate Admissions.
  • Seniors:  Will be participating in activities that they have already selected.
  • For students in grades 9-11, check your Pinkerton email on Friday and Monday for your room assignments.  For most, they are the same as they were for the PSAT/SAT School Day.
