Pinkerton Academy announces Educator Apprenticeship program

Pinkerton Academy has recently become a registered apprenticeship program, supporting potential educators. Sponsored by the New Hampshire Department of Labor, the program allows employees at Pinkerton to engage in a competency-based program of on-the-job learning and related instruction at a college that leads to becoming a NHED licensed educator.
Head of School, Dr. Timothy J. Powers says the program is in line with Pinkerton’s belief in creating meaningful educational experiences.
“The apprenticeship program allows us to create accessible pathways for individuals to become certified teachers. At Pinkerton, we believe in the lasting impact of experiential learning. We work with our students to find apprenticeships so they can grow, and we are excited to be able to do the same with future teachers.”
Apprentices have access to grant money to support their path towards licensure, making it affordable and sustainable for future educators. Pinkerton currently has 8 apprentices enrolled with 8 mentors supporting their growth and continued learning.
Regarding the program, Dr. Jennifer Resmini, Dean of Faculty, emphasizes the need to support a variety of paths for those who want to teach.
“The apprentice program provides for authentic learning, both through engagement in coursework and application of theory into practice through on-the-job learning. Providing multiple paths to becoming an educator is needed more than ever and we need to support individuals at various entry points,” Resmini said. “The goal is to develop the growth of the best fit of an educator at Pinkerton and the registered apprentice program will provide opportunities for our apprentices to become part of the fabric of our community and culture, leading to self-efficacious educators as they start their careers.”
On Friday, January 19th, Pinkerton Academy, along with the Greater Derry Londonderry Chamber of Commerce, held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the school’s educator apprenticeship program. Congressman Chris Pappas and members of the Chamber attended.
