Monthly Update - September 2023

September 25th, 2023 by Tim Powers

September 26, 2023

This past week and weekend it great to see all the school spirit on display. From Hall of Fame on Thursday to Pep Rally Friday and games throughout the weekend, PA Pride was on full display. The weekend culminated with the homecoming dance put on by Student Council. Thank you to all the students, faculty, staff, alums, community members, and many more that made all the events fun and exciting.  Astros, keep it up as we continue through the fall!

If you have driven by campus on Pinkerton Street, you may have noticed the progress on the construction project. We recently held a ceremonial groundbreaking. The project continues to move along with the foundation being laid and the underground plumbing and electrical being laid. The slab will be laid next and the vertical build will begin. Over the next few months, the building will become more visible as you pass by, and we are excited to see it progress.

The Pinkerton Academy Board of Trustees has instituted the School Start Time Committee. This group is made up of representatives from each of the sending town districts and from Pinkerton. They have started to investigate whether a later start to our school day is possible and what impact it would have. To be clear, they are just looking at what might be possible and no decision has been made about changing Pinkerton’s start time.

The committee will gather information from the students, parents, community, faculty, staff, and administrators and use it to consider and present possible options for the future. Next month, a survey will be go out to our faculty, staff, and families. In the family survey, there will be a link to the student survey. If your student wants to take the survey, please make sure to sign the waiver to allow them to opt-in. I hope that you will take the opportunity to share your thoughts in the survey and also allow your student the ability to take the student survey. This information will be very important to the committee.

By now I hope you’ve noticed some of the different things we are doing to share out the great things happening at Pinkerton. Our Voices of PA series highlights people on campus sharing about some of the things going on in different parts of our school community; On Campus with Dr. Powers shows fun moments in the classroooms and in other places on campus; and our new podcast Educational Insights with Dr. Powers: A Podcast for Lifelong Learners examines topics in education and how we address them at Pinkerton and beyond. You can find links to all of these and to these letters on our website on the Head of School’s Communications page.

Sincerely,

Dr. Timothy J. Powers
